The Road Ahead
I invite everyone who works, learns, or volunteers with University of Iowa Health Care to join me at today’s Open Forum to learn about our organization’s financial challenges and how we can all play a part in finding new ways to contain costs and enhance revenue.
The Forum is from noon to 1 p.m. today in the East Room of UI Hospitals and Clinics (Elevator D/F, Level 8). Associate Vice President and Chief Executive Officer for UI Hospitals and Clinics Ken Kates and I will present information that we will be discussing with the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, at its meeting in Iowa City tomorrow. This includes a review of the national and state forces that are affecting health care organizations as well as the specific challenges UI Hospitals and Clinics faces in Fiscal Year 2018.
We realize not everyone can attend in person, so it will also be webcast live starting at noon. You will need a HealthCareID to sign in. A video recording of the Forum will also be available on The Point (and linked from The Loop) tomorrow and additional information will be shared in the coming weeks on The Loop and VPMA Voice.
Questions you may have in advance of the forum can be submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org, and questions will be welcome during the forum in the East Room and from the webcast audience.
Achieving or exceeding a strong operating margin is important because it allows us to invest in new programs, increase salaries for our hardworking faculty and staff, and continue to support our teaching and research missions. That is why the hospital leadership team has begun work on key initiatives, including many identified in Goal 4 of our integrated strategic plan, to enhance revenue and contain costs. Ken and I will discuss some of those during the forum.
We are also looking for your ideas for how we can reduce our expenses and improve quality and revenue. You can submit your suggestions online, on paper in the suggestion box stationed in the Fountain Dining Room, or share them with your supervisor or department head. All suggestions will be evaluated.
While our financial challenges are significant, I am confident that with everyone’s help we will succeed in continuing to move forward in our tripartite mission.
