Ideas for success
The ideas to reduce expenses, improve quality, and enhance revenue throughout UI Health Care keep coming in and I am very grateful to everyone who has submitted their suggestions for how we can continue to deliver on our tripartite mission and meet our financial goals. We have now received more than 150 ideas!
As you might imagine, suggestions for reducing expenses have ranged from the very simple … “use LED lights” … to more complex evaluations of workflows in clinical areas. However, most suggestions fall into one of three categories: 1) ways to work more efficiently in our support services and patient care areas; 2) things we can do to save energy and reduce waste; and 3) how we can better use MyChart and other technology to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve patient care.
There are also some very creative ideas for improving quality and enhancing revenue including suggestions for new services; continued focus on accurate documentation to maximize reimbursement from insurance companies; more promotion of new services in UI Health Care pharmacies; and more.
Many of you offered your insight and assistance in specific areas for improvement, which is very much appreciated. We may be calling upon you as we evaluate suggestions for their potential.
In the meantime, there are things each of us can do right now and every day to work collaboratively and be more efficient. This is true throughout UI Health Care—in the laboratories, in the classrooms, and in the hospitals and clinics. By keeping our focus on doing what is right for our colleagues, students, and patients—providing excellent quality and service in all areas—we will achieve success, together.
One thing many of you can do today is to help us measure our culture of safety. I encourage everyone who received an invitation to participate in the 2017 Staff Engagement/Safety Culture survey to please complete it by Saturday, Sept. 30. If you have not yet taken the survey, you will receive a reminder email this week from our partner Press Ganey. Your opinions are important as we seek to improve our work environment and safety culture.
