Enjoy the moment! Take some tips from the patient experience section below to practice mindfulness during what can be a stressful time of year. Not only will you feel better, but those around you may, too. Also see a list of holiday happenings at UI Hospitals and Clinics to enjoy this month.

Patient safety alert

Closed loop communication to prevent harm: Always communicate back to the ordering provider.

PSN training

If you are new to the Patient Safety Net (PSN) system or need a refresher, attend one of our regular training sessions. They are held from 1 to 2 p.m. the third Friday and fourth Wednesday of each month in room 1107, Boyd Tower (Elevator A, Level 1). To sign up or ask questions, email or call the PSN Help Line at 319-467-6543.

Hand hygiene adherence

It’s worth your time: 20 seconds to save lives.

May I access my own medical record?

UI Hospitals and Clinics uses FairWarning software to monitor whose medical records employees are accessing. Read some tips on what you can and can't do when accessing records.

Process mapping: the super tool for making improvements

Superheroes can do magical things that ordinary people cannot. In Lean, pictures and visualization are powerful communication tools—they’re your super tools.

Documenting obesity

Many of our patients with morbid obesity not only have comorbidities more often, they can also increase the workload for care providers. It is vital for providers to accurately document this condition and if it is being evaluated (including dietary consult), monitored, or treated.
