Updated COVID-19 boosters authorized for children ages 5 and older

A bivalent booster provides protection against two strains of the COVID-19 virus: the original virus strain and the omicron variants.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently authorized updated (bivalent) booster doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 6–17 and the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 and older.

This authorization now means that all individuals ages 5 and older are eligible to receive the updated COVID-19 booster.

Anyone interested in receiving a COVID-19 booster through UI Health Care can schedule a vaccination through MyChart or visit uihc.org/covid-vaccine.

Remember to complete your ReadySet survey before receiving your updated booster.

Employees and volunteers who wish to receive an updated COVID-19 booster can do so from 7:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Pediatric Conference Center (Elevator F, Level 2), with no appointment necessary.
