UI Health Care moving forward with DEI-related efforts

UI Health Care employees and others can expect to learn more in the coming weeks and months about how the organization is taking steps to become a more diverse, equitable, and welcoming place for all.

Following the recommendations of a UI Health Care diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) task force, a number of initiatives are underway that focus on:

  • Recruitment and retention
  • Organizational culture and climate
  • Identifying and eliminating health disparities
  • Respect and understanding between providers and patients

In this video, UI Health Care leaders reiterate the commitment to a more diverse, equitable, and welcoming place for faculty, staff, students and trainees, patients, visitors, and partners.

“I’m extremely proud of the work of the DEI task force in guiding us forward, and I’m equally proud that our leadership team has made this a strategic priority,” says Denise Martinez, MD, interim associate vice president for health parity with UI Health Care. “From developing new programs that may identify and prevent identity-related harassment, to funding new research to understand and reduce health disparities, to bolstering our recruitment, retention, and employee-training efforts, we have the opportunity to make a real difference for our employees and all Iowans who look to and rely on UI Health Care.”
