Project Art announces a new temporary exhibit at UI Hospitals & Clinics by artist Alison Filley titled Guide to Domestic Measurement.
In this body of work, Alison Filley explores the trappings associated with domestic expectations and contemporary popular culture using elaborate ornamental patterning and photographic imagery. Her work showcased here include two-dimensional prints that combine glitter, flocking, screen printing, and digital print media.
“I create elaborate patterns combining mundane objects from domestic life that are equally contrived and alluring. By layering these patterns, the viewer is visually confronted with the challenge of trying to simultaneously excel at multiple domestic roles. The prints are both intoxicatingly beautiful and strangely awkward reflecting our complex relationship with these domestic expectations,” states Filley.
The exhibit is on view through Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019, located in Gallery I (Elevator F, Level 8).
Project Art curates and installs 16 temporary exhibitions annually, primarily focusing on local and regional artists. For more information, visit uihc.org/project-art.
