Iowa Cancer Consortium blog features two UI Health Care advocates

Ovarian Cancer Advocacy

“I lost my mom, Denese Kromminga, to ovarian cancer on World Cancer day, February 4th, 2016. It was after losing my mom when I decided I needed to do something to help bring awareness to and to help prevent this terrible disease.”

Bridget Toomey, CPC, CPB, project manager in Patient Financial Services wrote a blog post on ovarian cancer advocacy and her time in Washington, DC, where she requested additional funding for ovarian cancer research and awareness.

Lung Cancer Screening in Iowa

Richard Hoffman, MD, MPH, professor of internal medicine and epidemiology in the Division of Internal Medicine, wrote about lung cancer screening in Iowa: “Lung cancer is an important public health burden for Iowa, being the 2nd┬ámost frequently diagnosed cancer and the leading of cancer death.”

  1. I commend both of you for your commitment in your quest. I am a uterine cancer survivor and my father died due to complications following lung cancer. I wish you the best and thank you for all you are doing.
