In case you missed it: Women in Medicine Month draws to a close

Every year in September, the American Medical Association (AMA) recognizes Women in Medicine Month, an opportunity to, “showcase the accomplishments of women physicians as well as highlight advocacy related to women physicians and health issues impacting women patients.”

And this year UI Health Care put our own spin on the month, celebrating our providers for the work they do in patient care, research, and women’s health advocacy.

As we move into October, we’re looking back at the five UI Health Care Women in Medicine we featured in the month of September.

  1. I have the honor of working with 2 exceptional physicians here at U of Iowa. Dr. Laurie Gutmann, MD and Dr. Peg Nopoulos, MD. Dr. Nopoulos is the first women to be name Chair and CEO in 100 yrs of the Department of Psychiatry at Uni of Iowa. Dr. Laurie Gutmann is a clinical professor in Neurology and Vice Chair for Clinical Research. These 2 women exemplify the high caliber of women physicians at the U of Iowa and throughout the country.
