Grateful patient letter: Nurse Danilo “is a star” . . .

“Dear Mr. Kates,

“I would like to share my experience as a family member of a patient at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on 4 RC West.

“The entire team that cared for my dad on 4 RC West, the OR staff, the EP lab, social work, and the physicians were amazing. I truly felt that they had my dad’s best interest at heart and felt their compassion each time they came into the room. It was a terrible thing to go through for him and the family, but the people made it all bearable each and every day.

“Being a native Iowa Hawkeye and true fan of your health system, it gave me great pride to see the professionalism and patient centered care in everything they did and every location we went. I shared this experience at our director’s meeting in Tennessee when I was back at work. I hope and I know that you are, so very proud of the culture that has been created at the U of I.

“I would love to list all of the names of those who impacted my family, but it really was each and every one we encountered. I would be amiss if I did not give a huge shout out to Dr. V, the CV hospitalist on 4 RC. He gave us hope when we felt there was none, and he truly helped us stay focused and optimistic. All of the nurses and one in particular, Danilo, is a star. The way he took care of my dad and all of us including the talks and encouragement were above and beyond. I only wish I could recruit him to Tennessee!!! Jennifer Long who checked on us each and every day and has visited my dad at Windmill Manor is as patient centered as they come.

“My dad is still in skilled nursing, but he remains optimistic that he will return home to the farm very soon. I do not believe that we would be where we are right now on this journey without your team!”

–A grateful family member
