Governor signs proclamation to honor perioperative nurses

More than 40 nurses, students, and techs attended a presentation by internationally renowned perioperative lecturer, Patricia Seifert, RN, MSN, on Nov. 11 at UI Hospitals and Clinics. Onsite interviews and perioperative tours were also provided for attendees. The lecture was part of National Perioperative Nurse Week, Nov. 12 to 18.

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds recently signed a proclamation to acknowledge the importance of registered nurses in the operating room.

About perioperative nurses

During any surgical procedure, the perioperative registered nurse focuses on the well-being of the patient, while the other medical providers in the room are focused on their specific task at hand. These operating room nurses are the patients’ advocates during one of their most vulnerable times. Please recognize these nurses that often go unnoticed, but are a critical part of the surgical team and vital to optimal and safe patient care.
