Dance Marathon commits $2.2 million for child life position

University of Iowa Dance Marathon has committed $2.2 million to endow a child life specialist position in the UI Dance Marathon Pediatric Cancer Center at UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital.

Our child life program was the first program of its kind in Iowa, and it helps pediatric patients and their families cope with the stress and uncertainty of illness, injury, and treatment. Child life professionals offer support and coping, medical play, patient and sibling support groups, school re-entry, and many other patient- and family-centered programs to children and their families.

We’re grateful to UI Dance Marathon for their ongoing support. For the Kids always! FTK!

  1. As a mother of a special needs child who was supported by the Child life staff, I can attest to how important these staff members are! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for all you do for us!

  2. Our son was on the floor 8 years ago for several days due to a femur fracture and the Child Life staff was amazing! He was very down and they did all they could to keep his spirits up including having him join other patients on a different floor to bake cookies. You are all amazing! Thank you for all you do for the kids you encounter!
