Burn Trauma Center honored with Silver Beacon Award

The American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) has awarded the Silver Beacon Award for Excellence to the UI Hospitals & Clinics Burn Trauma Center.

The Beacon Award for Excellence—a significant milestone on the path to exceptional patient care and healthy work environments—recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards. Units that achieve this three-year, three-level award with gold, silver, or bronze designations meet national criteria consistent with Magnet Recognition, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, and the National Quality Healthcare Award.

“This award signifies that we are setting the highest standards in regard to patient safety and outcomes, patient satisfaction, and staff engagement,” says Jolyn Schneider, MSN, RN, PCCN-K, nurse manager for the Burn Treatment Center. “It shows that we benchmark against the best of the best.”

This recognition marks the first time the Burn Trauma Center has applied and received a Beacon Award from the AACN. The unit was also recently re-verified by the American Burn Association as a national burn center, joining 61 other verified burn centers across the country.
