Final Bread Garden location now open

Update Nov. 19: See hours the week of Thanksgiving

Update Nov. 13: The Bread Garden Cafe full-service location in the Main Entrance Lobby (Elevator E, Level 1) will be open for business on Saturday, Nov. 17, and Sunday, Nov. 18, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. (limited hours those days). See full hours below.

Staff charge (payroll deduct) is still being installed, but it is not quite available. In the meantime, please continue to pay with cash, credit, or debit.

Staff charge allows you to pay using your ID badge and can also be used at all Food and Nutrition Services and Volunteer Services locations. If you’ve never used staff charge before, you must first set it up in Employee Self Service; under Payroll, click on Charging and Payroll Deduction.

    • Diana, Yes! We will have Gluten Free cookies and granola bars. There will also be a gluten free/vegan brownie, along with a vegan Morning Glory muffin. As we expand the menu we can update you on more gluten free options. Thank you!

  1. I would like to request in advance that they put a small assortment of soups and other lunch items at the Pomerantz location (like Jave House currently does) for those of us who only have 30 minutes to get our food and eat. The trek to the main entrance location and back, plus wait time in line often proves too long and leaves no time to eat the food. Thanks for considering!

    • I completely agree with Lynn. Many of us that work in the Pomerantz building do not have time to walk way over to main entrance. Bread Garden most definitely would make money by offering soup, salads, and sandwiches at the Pomerantz location.

    • Having soup and lunch items at the Pomerantz Kiosk would be a great staff and Patient benefit, especially our Eye and Cancer center patients that have difficulty traveling to the main hospital. Thanks.

  2. It would be really nice if they had late night hours (at least at one kiosk location) for everyone who works night shift. They would definitely be profitable staying open later into the night.

    • Good question! I’ve added that above, but Bread Garden hours will be:
      ƒƒ
      Main Entrance Lobby:
      Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
      Friday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
      Saturday and Sunday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
      ƒƒ
      Fountain Entrance Lobby:
      Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
      ƒƒ
      Pomerantz Family Pavilion:
      Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

      Children’s:
      Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
      Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday, 7 a.m. to noon

24/7, you can always find coffee and food at a Food and Nutrition Services location; the Marketplace (Fountain Entrance Lobby) is open during overnight hours.

  3. I am glad you are offering vegan brownies and morning glory muffin!! Also hopefully you will offer more vegan options for food like soups, salads, sandwiches and also in the hot food bar. I am so glad you have more vegan options than Java House! Thanks for being more inclusive!

  4. I went to the bread garden near Fountain Entrance to get a Vietnamese iced coffee and was disappointed. It tasted like water with a splash of coffee. Please tell Bread Garden’s staff that their Vietnamese Iced coffee is NOT good and they should try to fix it.

    • AGREE!!! Don’t sell a specialty, traditional coffee that taste nothing like it’s supposed to. It’s supposed to be a mix of coffee and condensed milk.

  5. Please bring Java House back!!. Bread Garden coffee is tasteless and watered down. Perhaps next time, before making a change, the administration may actually consider talking to the employees and seek their input.

    • Agreed, the ice coffee is not ice coffee, more like warm sweet tea. You pay for premium coffee you have to pour yourself. They made me feel stupid for not knowing which coffee was the dark roast. Also the few times I have been there they did not have 1/2 and 1/2 and the creamers were not labeled (I think one was 2% and one was skim milk).

      • I agree. It’s just as if not more expensive than Java House, for an inferior product. They only have 8 oz and 16 oz cups, they do not have 12 oz cups. Additionally, they do not offer a discount if have your own travel mug. Java House did that.

  6. Any idea when staff charge will be an option? This is getting frustrating having to go all the way upstairs in pomerantz to just grab a cup of coffee. I think the location would have more traffic if that was available.

  7. When are we going to be able to use our staff charges? I tried to buy a cup of coffee today, but was unable. I would like to support the Bread Garden, I was under the impression from the postings you would be accepting staff charges this week.

  8. Everything I have had coffee/tea has been extremely disapointing and basically tasteless unless you want to spend 11$ to make is have flavor. There are few options for premade drinks other than black coffee and the rest you have to pick out and pay extra for every single flavor or milk you want in it. One cup of coffee with two flavors was 4.98 seems steep to me, at least java house tasted good and I always enjoyed the experience of drinking the coffee. Bread garden is not well versed in the coffee game.

  9. When will they be open at night for night shift? Yes, I saw the comment about offerings at the Compass . . . that really isn’t a comparison. There are lots of staff and visitors here in the off hours, and the night choices in the cafeteria are extremely limited.
