UI Hospitals & Clinics is taking temperatures of all non-UI Health Care employees entering the building—including patients, visitors, contractors, and anyone else who enters. This is to further protect the health and safety of everyone in the building.

Patients, visitors, and any other non-UI Health Care personnel will also be asked screening questions during the entry process.

The screening questions are:

  • Have you had a fever in the last 24 hours? Or
  • Do you have new or worsening:
    • Sore throat
    • Cough
    • Shortness of breath
  • Have you tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 14 days?
    • If the answer is yes, the visitor will not be permitted to enter our facilities.

Visitors, contractors, and other non-patients are not permitted to enter if they exhibit signs or symptoms of COVID-19.

Staff self-screening and re-entry process
Updated on 04/14/2021 at 9:01 am

Starting Monday, July 13, UI Health Care employees and volunteers will scan their UI Health Care ID badge and answer the self-reporting questions in order to enter the building.

The screening questions are:

  • Have you had a fever in the last 24 hours? Or
  • Do you have new or worsening:
    • Sore throat
    • Cough
    • Shortness of breath
  • Have you tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 14 days?

If you answer “yes” to any of the questions, you will be directed to call University Employee Health Clinic for follow-up evaluation at 319-356-3631. See patient information here.

Two-step staff screening process

Starting April 16, 2021, at 8 p.m., staff entrances will be locked.

  1. You’ll need to badge in to access the building.
  2. Then, you’ll swipe your badge again at the screening station to attest that you have no COVID-19 symptoms.

As a reminder, self-screening is a required process. Compliance with this process will be monitored.

Please help us be vigilant about individuals following others into the building without badging in. If you see a patient or visitor trying to use a staff entrance/exit, please direct them to the nearest available entrance/exit.

Reminder: The screening questions asked and presented to staff during entry are part of a regulation issued by Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds.

Thank you for your cooperation with these changes. Thank you for your professionalism and courtesy to our screening staff. They are here to keep you safe!

Re-entry process

Starting Monday, June 15, staff who frequently enter and exit UI Hospitals & Clinics will be able to re-enter without being screened multiple times a day.

If you know you will be coming in and out of the building that day, you can pick up a sticker after going through your initial screening. A table will be set up at each staff screening location with the stickers each day.

Daily stickers will show screeners you do not need to be screened again and expedite the re-entry process for staff.

Staff drop-off and pick-up at Lot 43 (near WCTC) or For The Kids Way
Updated on 05/04/2020 at 9:11 am

The hospital Main Entrance driveway, UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital main entrance, and Family Care Center circle are prioritized for patient drop-off and pick-up only; staff should not use these locations for drop-off or pick-up. This is due to the mandatory screening of all staff as they enter UI Hospitals & Clinics and the consequent limitation of entrances.

Staff being dropped off or picked up for work at UI Hospitals & Clinics should use the north section of Parking Lot 43 (just north of the West Campus Transportation Center) or For The Kids Way (see map below). If at WCTC, do not use the bus lanes around WCTC for drop off or pick up.

Two pedestrian ramps provide easy access from Parking Lot 43 to the WCTC. These locations are indicated by the gold pins on the map. From the WCTC, staff may choose to use the skyway or may use the marked pedestrian crosswalks and sidewalks to arrive at UI Hospitals & Clinics.

Please do your part to plan your route to work accordingly. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Thanks for understanding as we give priority to our patients to be dropped off and picked up at the main hospital entrance and drive at the Family Care Center.
