September Fountain Lobby Blood Drive

The DeGowin Blood Center is looking for donors to come and save a life from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, in the Fountain Lobby (Elevator C, Level 1). If you are eligible, please help support the transfusion needs of the patients at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics and UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital.

Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome. Sign up for an appointment at uihc.org/degowin or call the DeGowin Blood Center at 319-356-2058. With prior authorization from your supervisor, employees are allowed up to one hour for whole blood and two hours for platelet donations without reduction in pay or benefits.

 General donor information

  • Donors must bring a photo I.D. when they donate.
  • Be in general good health
  • Be at least 17 years old or 16 with special consent
  • Be cold and flu symptom free for 5 days
  • Eat a full meal within four hours of donation
  • Drink plenty of fluids before donating
  • It is recommended to increase the amount of salt in your diet the day prior to donating.
  • Weigh at least 110 pounds
  • Bring a list of current medications.
  • Bring a list of places visited outside the U.S. in the past three years, including travel dates.
