The 3rd annual Iowa Statewide Sickle Cell Symposium will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, in the Atrium Dining Room (Elevator E, Level 7).
Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited disease that changes the way hemoglobin – a protein in the red blood cells that carries oxygen – is made. It is a serious, life-long disease that requires daily care. The symposium will cover advances in SCD therapies, information about Medicare and Medicaid, social security benefits, and disability planning. All affected by SCD are welcome to attend.
