Winter weather information

This message is posted on behalf of UI Hospitals & Clinics Emergency Management and UI Health Care Human Resources.

A winter storm warning has been issued for Johnson County and surrounding counties from 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, through 6 p.m. Saturday. The storm is anticipated to arrive in our area Friday afternoon in the form of rain, transition to frozen precipitation, and eventually snow around or shortly after the evening commute, then continue as snow into tomorrow evening.

First and foremost, we are concerned for the safety of our staff during their travels to and from work. We greatly appreciate your efforts to safely get to work, as this ultimately benefits your fellow coworkers and most importantly, our patients.

For your safety, we urge you to anticipate difficulties in transportation to and from areas affected by the weather and actively communicate with your supervisors or other department authorities regarding your timeliness and attendance in order to assure proper staffing.

If necessary, staff members who travel a distance to work are encouraged to develop their own plans for staying locally (with friends, co-workers, or at their own expense at one of the local hotels listed below) to assure regular attendance at work. Staff may also dial 384-5000 to request assistance with finding accommodations within UI Hospitals & Clinics, however, availability may be limited.

The Emergency Management website has several links to severe weather resources, including to the Iowa DOT winter road conditions.

We appreciate every effort you make to come in through these difficult conditions. Thank you for all you do to support the mission of UI Health Care.
