Using MicroGuide for antimicrobial information and infection prevention

MicroGuide is a mobile software application used at UI Hospitals & Clinics to give practitioners easy access to:

  • Institution-specific empiric antimicrobial prescribing guidelines
  • Institutional antibiogram
  • Renal dosing of antimicrobials
  • Updated prevalence of enteric and respiratory pathogens
  • Infection prevention guidelines

Empiric prescribing guidelines were developed by the Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs at UI Hospitals & Clinics and Iowa City VA, reviewed by medical experts in each specialty, and approved by pharmacy and Therapeutics Subcommittee. These guidelines take our resistance patterns into account and are expected to be more applicable than other online guidelines for our patient population.

MicroGuide can be accessed on any in-house Voalte smartphone or clicking on the MicroGuide links in Epic or on The Point, Clinical Applications Web Links. Users may also download MicroGuide onto personal smartphones via the Apple iTunes store, Google Play store, or Microsoft Windows Phone store.
