Team,
This afternoon, I was proud to explain how and why a University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics proposed new facility is needed for our community and state. And I was proud to hear from our supporters about the difference we make.
At this time, however, the State Health Facilities Council did not approve our Certificate of Need for this project at a vote of 2-3. While this is disappointing, we value their feedback. We know that we can do a better job of describing our goals and dreams for this facility and how it will enable us to better serve our community partners and the patients of Iowa. The demand for our services hasn’t gone away with this decision, so neither will our pursuit of serving Iowans’ needs.
We are thankful for the city leaders, referring hospitals, business owners, patients, and other community members who provided letters of support and testimonials. This pandemic has shown us how important it is to anticipate needs and proactively serve our community.
I will continue to keep you updated as we work through this process. Thank you for your support and encouragement as we plan for the future and advocate for the Iowans who need us most.
