The format of this month’s Staff Council meeting was unique—councilors spent the majority of the time in breakout groups based on their assigned committees reviewing their goals and progress from last year and setting goals for this year. The committees shared their new goals with the Council at the end of the meeting.
Name of Diversity Committee changed to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee
The Council unanimously passed amendments to the Staff Council bylaws to change the name of the Diversity Committee to the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and refresh the committee’s Purpose and Scope of Concern.
Human Resources updates
During the previous Council meeting, Cheryl Reardon, associate vice president and chief HR officer, asked councilors to share HR-related questions or topics they would like to hear more about over the next year. This month Cheryl shared with the Council the themes that emerged from these questions and topics, which included:
- Tuition assistance
- HR people and processes
- Flexible work arrangements
More information about these topics will be shared with Staff Council during future Human Resources updates as part of the monthly Council meetings, and Cheryl encouraged the Staff Council’s Human Resources Committee to use these themes to set their agenda for the current council year.
Nominations for councilor vacancy
Councilors had an opportunity during the meeting to nominate staff to fill a vacancy for an Academic Support Services and Libraries function representative. Five nominations were made. The Elections Committee will review these nominations and pass on two of the nominations to the Executive Committee, which will make the final decision. We expect this vacancy to be filled by the next Council meeting on August 14, 2019.
