Staff entry screening to discontinue, additional staff entrances opening June 8

With the decline of COVID-19 transmission in the community, the high vaccination rate among our faculty and staff, and the expiration of the governor’s proclamation, entry screening will discontinue for UI Health Care employees and volunteers, effective Tuesday, June 8.

For more information, visit the Facilities & Services page on The Loop.

What you need to know

  • Additional staff entrances will be made available (see map below). These doors will be locked, meaning you’ll still need to scan your badge at these entrances in order to enter the building.
  • Upon entry, you’ll no longer be required to scan your ID badge to attest that you have no COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Staff should continue to wear their ID badge at the breast pocket or lapel level with picture and name forward, immediately visible to patients, visitors, and other staff.
    • Staff who do not display their ID badge in the appropriate position may be stopped by entry screening staff.
  • Patients, visitors, and any other non-UI Health Care personnel will still be required to go through entry screening at public entrances prior to entry into our facilities.

Please help us be vigilant about non-UI Health Care personnel following staff into the building. If you see a patient or visitor trying to use a staff entrance/exit, please direct them to the nearest available public entrance/exit.

Reminder: If you develop any signs or symptoms of COVID-19, you should remain home and call the University Employee Health Clinic at 319-356-3631.

  • Symptoms:
    • Have you had a fever in the last 24 hours?
    • Do you have new or worsening:
      • Sore throat
      • Cough
      • Shortness of breath

Additional staff entrances

Also effective Tuesday, June 8, additional staff-only entrances will be open to help you get where you need to go faster.

  1. When can we expect the level 2 entrance from Lot 30 to be opened for staff after 6 am for the staff who work at 8? There are not long lines there anymore and with our badges we should be able to walk around the check in area..

    • Hi Barbara,

There is a staff-only entrance available on the south side of the Pomerantz Family Pavilion outlined on the map in the post above.

  2. Who do I contact to obtain badge access to entrances for research lab members that have student IDs or are employed through the University of Iowa and conduct research in the CRU?

  3. When can staff expect to have the second floor doorway between elevators AA and BE connecting General Hospital from the Medical Labs/COM Admin Building opened, many entities on the Medical Campus need to wheel over carts to collect Hospital Stores orders or drop off/pick up items for Bioengineering. This door was open prior to COVID.

      • Hi! We also agree with the request to open the doors between CCOM buildings (specifically MRC to GH). We see research patients in the hospital multiple times a day and have to cart our supplies through multiple elevators and into the main hallways of the hospital. It was much easier to move our cart through on 3rd floor where there is less patient/visitor activity. Thanks!

  4. Can we get the door by the fountain entrance opened back up?? It’s a badge door -goes into guest services and some peds specialty offices so we don’t have to walk all the way around. Thank you

  5. When can we expect the ground level south entrance to Pappajohn building to be opened. It would be more convenient than using level 2 of ramp 4 when you are being dropped off. Please consider opening this entrance to employees. Thanks

  6. Hi,
I come in on the East side of the hospital so I was going through emergency this last year. I noticed theres an entrance/exit labeled 1, between elevator D and C, I’ve tried looking for it but I can’t find it, nothing lets me in. Can you clarify where this is?

      • Hi Tanner,
There are 4 doors to the Roy Carver Pavilion patio space. Are you talking about the door that leads to stairs GH-25? If so, there is a huge metal wall that has big signs reading “No entrance”. When I used my badge around 4:30 PM it worked however around 8 PM it did not. Plus that metal fence reads emergency egress only on your way out….
