7th St. Coralville now open: Road construction update along UI Health Care–Iowa River Landing

Update, Thursday, Oct. 24:

The City of Coralville has now re-opened 7th Street between 1st Avenue and Quarry Road, allowing for another way to enter and exit the Iowa River Landing area of town. This should help alleviate traffic congestion due to construction along 9th Street.

See map of the area.

Update, Wednesday, Oct. 16:

Due to significant traffic delays experienced Monday, Oct. 14, the City of Coralville is working with the construction firm to change the traffic pattern for Tuesday going forward. The following changes have been implemented:

  1. Re-opened the second westbound lane from 1st Avenue to Ponseti Way to separate the westbound right and thru/left turn lanes.
  2. Modified the 1st Avenue and E. 9th Street traffic signal to run the eastbound (Kum & Go side) and westbound (Iowa River Landing side) movements separate from each other. This allows westbound drivers exiting the Iowa River Landing area to have a free-flow left turn onto southbound 1st Avenue.
  3. Increased the amount of green light time given to the westbound E. 9th Street exiting the Iowa River Landing area.
  4. They are pushing to get the missing section of E. 7th Street paved in the next week or two, so they can re-open E. 7th Street to allow for another exit road from the Iowa River Landing area.

Starting Monday, Oct. 14, the City of Coralville will be reducing traffic to one lane in each direction on 9th Street, which runs along the south side of the UI Health Care–Iowa River Landing building.

Construction will end on Friday, Nov. 22, and traffic will return to two lanes in both directions.

Please plan accordingly as delays are expected given traffic will be reduced to one lane. Staff should plan for extra travel time to and from work and recognize that patients may be delayed in arriving for appointments.
