Faculty members in the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine are encouraged to attend the 24th annual White Coat Ceremony, which begins at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at Hancher Auditorium. Faculty members may submit a White Coat Ceremony RSVP online; faculty attendees are asked to wear their own white coats to the event.
The annual White Coat Ceremony marks the culmination of the orientation activities of the incoming medical students who comprise the college’s class of 2022. The new students will receive their first white coats and take the Hippocratic Oath before an audience of family and friends. This long-standing tradition represents a defining moment in the students’ medical education and signals the tremendous responsibilities that lie ahead for them on the road to becoming caring physicians.
The keynote address for this year’s ceremony will be delivered by Janet Fairley, MD, the John S. Strauss Professor and Chair of the Department of Dermatology.
