Parking permit holders 55, 65, 75, 85: Park closer to the hospital

University of Iowa Parking and Transportation has graciously adjusted parking for some UI Health Care staff starting Monday, March 23. Most staff who usually depend on Cambus will now have access to parking lots closer to the hospital. These changes allow our staff to get to work safely and more quickly so they can perform their duties to help our community in this time of need.

What is changing

Together, we have made these changes to preserve parking seniority while also giving our employees access to parking that is closer to the hospital.

These temporary adjustments allow permit holders who are currently in lots 55, 65, 75, 85 to park in re-assigned locations closer to the hospital. These include:

Current parking permit location Re-assigned location staring March 23
Parking Lot 85, Hawkeye Commuter Parking Lot 65, Finkbine Commuter
Parking Lot 65, Finkbine Commuter Parking Lot 75, Arena
Parking Lot 55, Hancher Parking Lot 40, Dental faculty/staff
Parking Lot 75, Arena Parking Lot 43, Kinnick
GME Lot 65, and Lot 75 Hospital Parking Ramp 4

Those who hold permits for these lots will be notified in a communication from UI Parking & Transportation. Additional details are available from UI Parking and Transportation.

These changes are effective Monday, March 23, 2020 until further notice.

What is staying the same

All other parking permit parking remains the same at this time. As a reminder, this includes:

  • Hospital Parking Ramps 1, 2, 4, and Family Care Center Lot remain reserved for patient and visitor use Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. It’s especially important to preserve the ramps for patient and visitor use as valet service is currently suspended.
  • Hospital Parking Ramp 3 and Newton Road Parking Ramp are available for employee use per normal operations, with hourly rates in effect.

While these changes don’t address every scenario for every person, it’s a step in the right direction to get our employees to work more quickly and safely. Thank you for your dedication to our patients, community, and fellow colleagues.

    • Judy, yes still use the hangtag of your original assigned lot in your ‘new’ lot. If that lot is full, you may need to park in your original lot.

  1. It mentions ramps but for those parking in lots not mentioned (like lot 46), are we to assume those have remained unchanged?

  2. My normal lot is 43 and I spent a lot of time roaming the rows looking for a space this morning as I didn’t have to be at work until 9:30. I think I found the very last spot – where do I go tomorrow if this happens and I don’t find a space. Do I have to park in the Arena?

    • Kris and Wendy,
Because of the increased utilization, Parking and Transportation staff will be on-site at Parking Lot 43 from 7:30 a.m. – 10 a.m. to assist with finding available parking. To reduce your time looking for an open space, look for staff in safety vests along Lot 43 Drive and/or Evashevski Drive to assist. The flexibility is appreciated and employees are encouraged to allow a little extra time if possible.
