Pager helps streamline patient discharge services

In times of high census, efficient and appropriate discharge of patients is essential to our operation. Many issues can complicate the process, like imaging and procedure scheduling, and transportation challenges.

UI Health Care staff are reminded and encouraged to use a pager that is staffed 24/7 by nursing and social work leadership. These leaders can assist in getting the right team on board to help expedite needed services.

If you are experiencing difficulties in discharging a patient:

  1. Discuss the issue(s) with the unit nurse manager, charge nurse, social worker, and/or navigator and the Faculty/Attending.
  2. If barriers remain, page 3600 (“Barriers to LOS/Discharge: pager” in SmartWeb)
