Helen K. Rossi Guest House Lodging Program partners with new hotel provider

Starting Wednesday, July 1, the Helen K. Rossi Guest House Lodging Program will transition from the Heartland Inn to the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center, Coralville as the hotel provider for this program.

The Rossi Guest House Lodging Program (RGHLP) provides comfort and lodging to family members of inpatients at UI Hospitals & Clinics, including UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital. 24 hotel rooms are reserved primarily for families of inpatients in our intensive care units. Originally located in General Hospital, accommodations were relocated off-site two years ago to increase adult inpatient beds.

Are procedures changing?

No. The procedures for how families are placed in a RGHLP hotel room remain the same. The hotel where they are placed is the only thing changing.

How do families get placed on the waiting list?

Consistent with current practice, requests must be made through the hospital by calling RGHLP staff at 319-384-9240. Reservations are not taken. Families or other hospital staff members assisting the family may call the RGHLP office. Families and staff should not contact the Radisson Hotel directly.

Which families get to stay in these hotel rooms?

Placements are determined solely by RGHLP staff, not the Radisson Hotel staff. Families are given priority based on existing Rossi Guest House guidelines.

For pediatric families, families with no sleeping space in their child’s hospital room receive priority placement in a hotel room.

How much will families pay for a hotel room at the Radisson Hotel?

The cost-sharing arrangement between UI Hospitals & Clinics and the guest will continue. RGHLP guests will pay a portion of the rate and the hospital will subsidize the remainder.

  • Pediatric patient families: $10/night + tax ($11.20 total)
  • Adult patient families: $25/night + tax ($28 total)

Is shuttle transportation provided?

A complimentary, on-demand shuttle van service to and from the hotel and hospital, is available from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., daily. A complimentary shuttle service to other areas within 5 miles of the hotel is also available. If family transportation is needed for a patient emergency during off-hours, Radisson Hotel staff will call for cab service and the hospital will cover the cost.

What are the pick-up and drop-off locations for the shuttle service?

Pick-up/drop-off locations will be at the Fountain Circle Lobby Entrance (while the Main Entrance is temporarily closed), and the UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital Main Entrance.

How far is the Radisson Hotel from UI Hospitals & Clinics?

The hotel is located on 1st Ave., Coralville, north of I-80 and Iowa River Landing. It is approximately 2.9 miles (8 minutes) from the hospital.

Is food provided?

A complimentary hot breakfast is provided to guests daily in the adjacent restaurant, 1201 Kitchen & Tap.

  • Microwaves
  • Mini refrigerators

Also available for use:

How will the transition work for families currently staying at the Heartland Inn?
