Free patient parking kudos, questions, and clarifications

Free patient parking launched one week ago today and, not surprisingly, patients are delighted with the change. Here are some of the comments we’ve received.

This is fantastic news! I have a special needs daughter who has a lot of doctor appointments with many specialists, so appointment days can be long and parking fees can get pretty costly. This will help out a lot, thank you!!!”

Well I’m loving this! Any little bit helps. We live all the way across the state and come for tests and treatment every 3 months. Between gas, food, and usually a motel room it gets pretty expensive.”

“This is awesome!! My son has been coming there for 26 years and multiple other family members I can’t tell you how much this is going to help us families that have to use this on a regular basis!”

There are still a few questions we hear frequently. If you get asked, here are the answers:

If someone drives the patient here, can that individual use the free patient parking pass?

Yes, the patient can give their parking pass to whomever drove them. There is one pass per patient, per appointment.

When should the Patient Parking Pass be given to the patient?

  • For clinic appointments: at check-in
  • Outpatient procedures: at check-in
  • Outpatient surgeries: at discharge
  • Inpatient stays: at discharge

When can visitors buy a Visitor Parking Pass Booklet?

The booklets are available for purchase at the Main Entrance or UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital Information Desks during the hours of 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends. Updated flyers are now available to indicate the hours.
