University of Iowa Health Care is collaborating with Press Ganey again to conduct this year’s Working at Iowa Survey.
Survey window: Oct. 17–Nov. 7
Final response rate: 78.9%
It’s completely anonymous, takes a short time to complete, and your input will provide valuable information to help us determine areas where UI Health Care is making progress, as well as areas that may need additional effort and focus.
We encourage you to express your opinions open and honestly. The survey will take about 10 minutes to complete and includes questions relating to employee engagement, resiliency and wellbeing, quality and safety, workplace violence, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and other important areas within UI Health Care.
Press Ganey staff will ensure all individual responses remain confidential. However, please keep in mind that any comments will be reported as verbatim.

For supervisors: Talking points on sharing results from the 2022 UI Health Care Working at Iowa Survey
This annual engagement survey in the fall provides valuable information to help determine areas where UI Health Care is making progress, as well as areas that may need additional effort and focus. Traditional Working at Iowa Survey engagement questions that are sent to all UI employees along with health care-specific questions from our survey administrator Press Ganey are included in the survey.
The 2022 survey included questions focused on core engagement, resiliency/well-being, safety, workplace violence, and diversity, equity and inclusion. It also included ten university-wide Working at Iowa questions.
All regular employees hired on or before Sept. 1, 2022, with a regular appointment, as well as resident and fellow physicians and postdocs. All other temporary, PRN, or student employees were not eligible to take the survey.
Yes. Survey results will be reported as percentages of those participating only when there are five or more responses to any individual survey question. Comments submitted will not be associated with a respondent’s name or identification; however, all comments are reported verbatim to supervisors.
No. Press Ganey will only report the results at the team level if there are at least five respondents in the group. If there are not five respondents, the survey results for this team will be included in the next level (the supervisor’s supervisor).
A good impact plan will include two focal points tied to key drivers in your survey results that are specific, measurable, accountable, realistic, and time driven. These focal points should be actionable at the local level and involve team input.
- Access and understand your 2022 UI Health Care Working at Iowa Survey results in the Press Ganey portal.
- Participate in an upcoming portal training session.
- Review and share your results with your team, celebrating areas of success and utilizing key drivers for opportunities for improvement.
- Create an impact plan with your team utilizing the “Why-1-2-3″ method for improving results. Focus on items and actions within you or your team’s span of control.
- Communicate and share your achievements
Please note that access to the Press Ganey portal is dependent on the number of responses from your team. If a supervisor doesn’t receive an email from Press Ganey, they should talk to their supervisor about next steps.
Participate in a discussion with your team, department, or group regarding your 2022 results.
Your HR Representative will have access to your team’s survey results and can partner with you to review and understand the results for your area(s) and plan for discussion with your team. Your HR Representative may also assist with the development of impact plan.
Senior leadership will be developing impact plans to address organizational opportunities as a result of the 2022 survey.
Engagement survey results are intended to provide supervisors with insights into their team’s feedback and enable targeted action to enhance employee engagement for their teams. The insights gained from the survey results and discussion with teams may naturally lead to the development of performance goals for the next year. The engagement metrics and indices should not be utilized as a factor for performance review ratings.
The impact plans you create should be driven by each team’s results. Results are likely to be nuanced, with differing strengths and opportunities within each team. For this reason, it is important that each impact plan be responsive to the specific team results. In rare instances where the results are the same across teams, it may be appropriate to implement the same impact plan(s).
