Addressing the Aging Eyes

The eyes are one of the first things we notice about a person’s face, and unfortunately they are often one of the first areas to show the signs of aging.  Aging of the eyes can be anything from fine lines (wrinkles) to crepey skin, to more severe eye bags and loose skin.  Fillers may the a good optional quick fix for the right patient, and will temporarily address some of those signs of aging.  Under eye problems like hollowing or darkened areas can  be injected with hyaluronic acid fillers (Restlayne, Juvederm) to plump up the area.  The right amount of fillers, expertly injected, add volume to the area and help camouflage depressions and the dark circles.  Immediate results can be experienced and results can last from 3 to 12 months (typically around 6-9 for most of my patients).

In the case of heavy bags and loose skin of the lower lid, a patient should consider a blepharoplasty procedure.  This addresses the underlying structures, and the changes that have occurred, to properly restore your eyes to a more youthful appearance.  During surgery, excess fat around the eye can be excised or repositioned and excess skin is removed.  This results in a tighter, more youthful and “well-rested” appearance to the eyes.  Recovery is fairly quick and can often be done in our surgical center.    The goal is to help your eyes look 5-10 years younger, thus resetting the clock.  The eyes will continue to age, so you may need a revision surgery in the future, but this is not a common occurrence.    Properly treating your eyes has a profound impact on the overall appearance of your face, and subsequently how you feel about yourself.  Call now for a consultation in regards to possible eye treatment, or any facial aging concerns.
