Staff Spotlight – Shelby Romoser, CGC

Shelby Romoser is a Genetic Counselor in the Division of Medical Genetics and Genomics.

I help patients and their families who are at risk for, are being tested for or have been diagnosed with genetic conditions. I have worked at UIHC for 4 1/2 years. I love educating and telling others about what genetic counselors are, what we do, and how we can help your patients.

My husband, Tyler, and I have a beautiful 1-year-old daughter, Ava.

I love “junk-tiquing” and going to craft fairs! I also enjoy hanging out with my sisters, nephews and friends. My hobbies include scrapbooking and singing.

My dream job is to be a broadway performer. During one summer of college, I was a performer at Adventureland and loved singing and dancing on the “Soda & Sounds” stage.

I studied abroad in New Zealand and have dreamed about going back ever since. It was the only place in the world that I know where you can ski in the mountains or surf in the ocean within a 20 minute drive, and there were sheep everywhere!

Favorite restaurant? Olive Garden.

Favorite sports teams? Hawkeyes AND Cyclones (I cheer both on).

Favorite movie is The Notebook.

If I had 3 wishes, they would be 1. More hours in each day 2. Laundry and dishes would clean themselves 3. Christmas occurred more than once a year.

Fun fact: I can yodel.
