Carol is a pediatric nurse practitioner in the NICU.
I am a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and have worked at the University of Iowa for 38 years! I have held numerous positions, Staff Nurse, Night Supervisor, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Assistant Nurse Manager, and Nurse Manager.
My husband Rex is a retired plumber, now avid golfer. I have 3 daughters: Tamara (38) is in her first year as a school counselor after spending many years teaching Spanish and coaching cross country & track at Cedar Rapids Jefferson. She & her husband Keith have 2 children Charlotte (2 1/2) and Landon (2). Tara (36) is a pharmacist and is the DIrector of Business Development at Genoa Healthcare. She and her husband Jake live in Lakeville, MN with their daughters Frankie (5) and Annie (3). Christy (31) is an accountant at Murken Thompson in Swisher. She & her husband Justin have 1 son Dewey Ryan (1).
In my free time I like to travel, sew, exercise, read, babysit grandkids, play games, spend time with family.
My dream job is my current position in the NICU (minus the weekends and holidays)! I am fortunate to be part of a nurse practitioner team consisting of some of the smartest and most dedicated women I know. I cannot think of another career that could be more important or more satisfying.
Most fascinating places I’ve visited? I loved both Hawaii and Alaska!
I love the Hawkeyes, and my favorite movie is Gone with the Wind. Favorite book is Where the Crawdads Sing.
If I had 3 wishes, they would be for 1. For all children to be raised in safe, loving homes. 2. A cure for cancer. 3. For my children to continue to be the happy, good people they are today!
Fun fact: Inspired by my daughters, I started running in my 50’s and completed 6 half marathons.
