Dr. Boes is Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Neurology & Psychiatry; and Director of the UI Noninvasive Brain Stimulation Program.
I split my time between research, directing the noninvasive brain stimulation program, which primarily involves treating major depression using transcranial magnetic stimulation, and pediatric neurology. I’ve worked at UIHC almost 3 years.
My wife Stephanie is a neonatal nurse practitioner in the NICU here at UIHC. We have two kids, Elise (7) and Emmett (3). Stephanie and I stay pretty busy outside of work trying to keep up with our kids. Other activities would be finding new restaurants in the area or watching movies \ Hawkeyes athletics.
This is my dream job. I love what I’m doing and there’s no place I’d rather be than Iowa City.
I don’t know if I’d describe it as fascinating but I loved living in San Diego for two years as a pediatrics resident.
Favorite meal? Sushi at Sushiya in North Liberty, with my daughter Elise who shares my love of sushi.
Favorite book? The Feeling of What Happens by Antonio Damasio (former UI faculty member in adult neurology).
