Two new pediatric ophthalmologists have joined the UI.
Dr. Alina Dumitrescu received her medical degree from Victor Babes University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Timisoara, Romania. She completed Pediatric Ophthalmology and Pediatric Genetics Fellowships at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics before doing ophthalmology residency training at the University of Kansas Hospital – KU Eye Center in Prairie Village, Kansas. Dr. Dumitrescu specializes in the treatment of inherited eye disorders, retinopathy of prematurity and strabismus. She sees patients at the main hospital Eye Clinic and at the UI Health Care-Iowa River Landing facility in Coralville.
Dr. Pavlina Kemp received her medical degree and ophthalmology residency training at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. She pursued a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infi rmary in Boston. She specializes in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus and pediatric cataract. Research interests include strabismus outcome studies, resident education and pediatric optical coherence tomography. Dr. Kemp will treat patients at the main hospital Eye Clinic starting in January 2016.
Both have secondary appointments in Pediatrics in recognition of their anticipated clinical and research collaborations with faculty members in Pediatrics and their contributions to the education of trainees.
