1930s

- Victor I. Markson ('37 MD) was in private practice for 46 years in Beaver Falls, Pa. As a resident at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia from 1956-1957, he worked on the clinical trials for the drug Coumadin. When he established his practice in Beaver Falls, he was one of the first practitioners in the country to offer office-based Coumadin therapy.
1940s
- John R. Christensen ('47 BA, '47 MD, '51 R) retired from the Palo Alto Medical Clinic in 1989. He and wife, Fay, have lived on Mercer Island in Washington for the past four years.
- Harold A. Ladwig ('47 MD, '52 BA) resides in Wilson, S.C., after many years of practice as a neurologist in Nebraska and in South Carolina. He and his wife, Marjorie, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2006.
- John R. Maxwell ('47 BA, '47 MD) lives in Iowa City where he had a private practice and now works for the Iowa City Free Medical Clinic. For many years, he mentored a monthly rotation for senior medical students in the community medicine course.
1950s

- Harold E. Bergee ('54 BA, '57 MD, '69 R) retired in 1995 from radiology practice in Moline, Ill. He was in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps from 1957-1962 and was first in his U.S. Naval Flight Surgeon class.
- Dale L. Christensen ('57 MD) has been a family practice physician in Lake City, Iowa at McCrary Rost Clinic and Stewart Memorial Community Hospital, where he served as medical director of hospital clinics. He enjoys tree farming, hunting, dog training, family activities and biking.
- Ralph S. Hoover ('57 MD) practices health law in Chicago. His clients are physicians and group practices from around the United States.
- Carlton J. Peterson ('57 MD) retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1984 after 27 years of active duty. In 1994, he retired a second time after 10 years as a medical consultant for the California State Department of Health Services. He lives in Redlands, Calif.
- Alan E. Shumacher ('57 MD) resides in San Diego, Calif., and retired from active patient care in 1990. He and his wife, Harriet, have three grown children and six grandchildren. They enjoy playing tennis, spending time with their grandchildren and visiting their second home in Palm Desert, Calif.
- Richard L. DonTigny ('58 PT) has recently published findings in the text, 'Movement, Stability & Lumbopelvic Pain: Integration of research and therapy.' His research is on the mechanics of idiopathic low back pain syndrome.
- J.M. Wormley ('58 MD) volunteers part time in the community and at the Azusa Pacific University Student Health Center. He is chairman of the board of Cooperative of American Physicians-Mutual Protection Trust (CAP-MPT), a California, physician-owned and directed medical malpractice carrier.
1960s
- Marshall G. Goldberg ('59 BA, '62 MD, '65 R) practices at Valley Pediatric Medical Group in Encino, Calif. He has served as president of the Los Angeles Allergy Society and the Los Angeles Pediatric Society. He has three sons and one grandson.
- Thomas F. Purdon ('59 BA, '62 MD, '66 R) is a consultant for a group of primary care community health clinics, and has a resident teaching rotation. He also is a consultant for a medical equipment company. He resides in Green Valley, Ariz.
- David M. Wineinger ('62 MD) retired from practice in Green Bay, Wisc., in 1997. He and his wife, Joyce, spend part of the year in Palm Harbor, Fla. They have three children.
- Donald D. Brown ('62 BA, '65 MS, '66 MD) is a professor of cardiology in the Department of Internal Medicine at the UI Carver College of Medicine.
- Michael R. Fox ('67 MD) practices in Tampa, Sarasota, and Ft. Myers, Fla. He is in the process of building a multicity, systems-based mental health care private practice in southwest Florida that will continue training future professionals.
- David Ploth ('67 MD, '69 R, '72 R, '74 F) is A.V. Williams Jr Professor of Medicine and director of the Division of Nephrology at the Medical University of South Carolina.
- Steven M. Weinberg ('67 MD) just completed five years as an appointee in the Bush administration. He was the associate director and medical director of the Peace Corps. He is now general counsel for Organ Transport Systems and resides in Colleyville, Texas.
- Douglas H. Kirkpatrick ('69 MD) is in private practice in Denver, Colo., and is assistant clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. He is president elect of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). In 2003, he received the ACOG Outstanding District Service Award.
1970s

- Nancy C. Andreasen ('70 MD), a professor of psychiatry who holds the Andrew H. Woods Chair of Psychiatry at the UI Carver College of Medicine, has received the American Psychiatric Association's Judd Marmor Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the biopsychosocial model of research on mental disorders.
- J. Michael Moses ('66 BS, '70 MD, '75 R) of Central City, Pa., is president and orthopaedic surgeon at West Pennsylvania Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Johnstown, Pa.
- John J. Stoltenberg ('71 MD) of Wayzata, Minn., is a surgeon and medical director for Mercy and Unity Hospitals and medical director of surgery for Unity Hospital in Friedley, Minn. He received the Unity Hospital William J. Carr, MD, Physician Leadership Award.
- Herbert C. Bastow ('69 BS, '72 MD) retired in April 2000. He and his wife, Susan, reside in Hallsville, Mo. They have four grandchildren.
- Lawrence W. Finney ('72 MD) practiced for 28 years in Sioux Falls, S.D, retiring in December 2000. He was named South Dakota Family Doctor of the Year in 1992, and was president of the South Dakota Academy of Family Physicians from 1983-1984.
- John F. Fieselmann ('68 BS, '72 MD, '75 R, '78 F) is a clinical professor of internal medicine at the UI Hospitals and Clinics. He resides in Iowa City.
- Paul G. Goellner ('72 MD) has spent 33 years practicing primary care in northwest Wisconsin. He resides in Spooner, Wisc.
- James C. Hall ('69 BA, '72 MD) is medical director of Health Corp in Dubuque, Iowa.
- David M. Kemp ('72 MD, '78 R) is a pediatrician with Dubuque Pediatrics. He resides in Hazel Green, Wisc.
- Wayne E. Kuhl ('72 MD) has a full-time internal medicine practice in Phoenix, Ariz., and also is the head team physician for the Arizona Cardinals football team. He and his wife, Judy, have three sons and four grandchildren.
- David K. Lemon ('68 BA, '72 MD, '75 R) resides in Clive, Iowa and is a cardiologist in heart and vascular care with The Iowa Clinic in West Des Moines, Iowa.
- Richard S. Munsen Jr ('72 MD, '80 F) retired from retinal practice in 2006 and is now a part-time clinical assistant professor of ophthalmology at the University of Washington.
- John F. Ramsey ('68 BS, '72 MD, '78 R) resides in Salt Lake City and is practicing at Alta View Eye Care Center in Sandy, Utah. He also is president of the practice. He, and his wife, Mindy have two children, Matt, 34, a transitional intern in ophthalmology, and Libby, 30, an internal medicine intern, and three grandchildren.
- Michael J. Sexton ('72 MD) is a physician for the Kaiser Permanente San Rafael Emergency Department. He was president of the California Medical Association from 2005-2006, and has been awarded the Kaiser Permanente Cecil Cutting Award.
- J. John Straub ('72 MD) is an interventional radiologist with a special interest in interventional oncology with Jefferson Radiology and Hartford Hospital. He has practiced there for 31 years.
- James G. Vogel ('68 BS, '72 MD, '76 R) retired from his OB/GYN practice on March 1, 2007. He visits Iowa City often as an Iowa football season ticket holder. He and his wife, Ellen, live in Janesville, Wisc.
- John D. Wassner ('72 MD) works for St. Vincent Regional Medical Center as a trauma/acute-care surgeon in Sante Fe, N.M. He served in Afghanistan commanding the 909th Forward Surgical Team for Operation Enduring Freedom.
- George R. Wilkinson ('68 MS, '72 MD) works part time as a cardiac surgeon for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Associates in Medford, Ore., and part time for Kaiser Permanente in Honolulu, Hawaii.
- Judy Townsend Tabar ('73 BA, '75 PA) is president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Planned Parenthood of Connecticut, Inc. She was named CEO of the year receiving the Ruth Green Award from Planned Parenthood Federation of America at their annual meeting.
- Richard W. Dehn ('73 BA, '76 BS, '76 PA) is clinical professor and assistant director of the UI Physician Assistant Program. He was named Physician Assistant of the Year by the Iowa Physician Assistant Society.
- Charles W. Beatty ('77 MD) is chair of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. He and his wife, Ann, have four sons.
- Kevin J. Cunningham ('77 MD) practices internal medicine in Des Moines. He is married with four children and one granddaughter.
- Glenn R. Johnson ('77 MD) practices at Headwaters Orthopaedics in Bemidji, Minn. He received a 2004 International Humanitarian of the Year award from the American Radio Relay League for volunteer work and teaching in the Kingdom of Bhutan.
- Kurt J. Jorgensen ('77 MD) is chair of the Department of Family Medicine at Gundersen/Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse, Wisc.
- Judith L. Oakes ('72 BA, '77 MD, '78 R) resides in Glenwood Springs, Colo., and is practicing at Glenwood Springs Anesthesiologists. She has five daughters, including three adopted 'special needs' children, and is actively involved in Special Olympics activities, church, instrumental music and needlework/quilting.
- Barry Press ('73 BS, '77 MD) was promoted to adjunct clinical professor of surgery (plastic and reconstructive) at Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford, Calif. He maintains a private practice in San Jose, Calif., and continues to work as associate residency program director for the Stanford Plastic Surgery Residency Program.
- Randall S. Rissman ('73 BS, '77 MD) is medical director at Maverick Family Health Center in Woodstock, N.Y.
- William M. Sandy ('77 MD) has had a rural practice in Holdrege, Neb., for 27 years. He is chief executive officer and a general internist at Family Medical Specialties.
- Mark J. Singsank ('77 MD) helped to establish the first emergency medicine department and the first group practice of board-certified emergency medicine doctors in Iowa. He is a physician at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa.
- Wendy R.K. Smoker ('71 BS, '72 MS, '77 MD, '80 R, '82 F) is professor and director of the neuroradiology division of the Department of Radiology at UI Hospitals and Clinics. She served as president of the American Society of Head and Neck Radiologists in 1999.
- Robert F. Weis ('74 BS, '77 MD) works for Unity Health Care in Muscatine, Iowa. He was awarded the Laureate Award from the Iowa chapter of the American College of Physicians in 2006. His son, Justin, graduated from the UI Carver College of Medicine in 2007.
- Marla J. Morris Hallstein ('78 RadT) of Normal, Ill., is a sonographer at Associates in OB/GYN in Bloomington, Ill.
1980s
- Jon S. Ahrendsen ('78 BS, '82 MD) has been in family practice in Clarion, Iowa for 22 years. He took a working sabbatical in South Carolina for 10 months in 2000.
- Ronda K. Dennis-Smithart ('78 BS, '82 MD, '86 F) practices at Pediatric & Young Adult Clinic in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She and her husband, Mike, have a daughter, Kelsey. She will attend the UI in the fall.
- Susan M. Goodner ('77 BA, '82 MD, '85 R) owns her medical practice which provides in-home medicine to the Amish community surrounding Kalona, Iowa.
- Douglas R. Hess ('82 MD, '85 R, '86 F) lives in Pueblo, Colo.
- Martin L. Kelsten ('77 BA, '82 MD) resides in Columbus, Ohio and is working as a pathologist. He and his wife, Mamie, have three children ages 17, 16, and 12, and three dogs.
- Charles C. Larson ('82 MD, '85 R) is a gastroenterologist and partner in The Iowa Clinic in West Des Moines, Iowa. He and his wife, Donna, have a son, Charlie, and a daughter, Carolyn.
- Elizabeth M. Loeb ('77 BA, '82 MS, '82 MD, '85 R) practices at Iowa City Family Practice. She and her husband, William, have three children, Rosemary, Kristina, and Matthew. She has traveled to Mexico to conduct medical screenings for the past three years with Rotary International.
- Robert L. Steinmetz ('82 MD) is a physician at Southern Vitreoretinal Associates in Tallahassee, Fla., and is a clinical assistant professor at the Florida State University College of Medicine.
- John D. Swanson Jr. ('78 BS, '82 MD) recently began palliative medical service at Appleton Medical Center in Appleton, Wisc. He also is medical director of Thedacare Hospice. He has three children.
- John S. Toussaint ('82 MD) is chief executive officer and president of ThedaCare, a four-hospital organization in northeast Wisconsin.
- Shawna C. Willey ('82 MD) is director of Betty Lou Ourisman Breast Health Center at Georgetown University. She is president elect of the American Society of Breast Surgeons.
- Dianne L. Atkins ('83 F) is a pediatric cardiologist at UI Children's Hospital. She received the 2006 Distinguished Achievement Award from the Council on Cardiovascular Disease in the Young.
- Valerie G. Kalter ('83 PhD) is an associate professor of biology at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. She resides in Mountain Top, Pa.
- Richard D. Veenstra ('83 PhD) resides in Fayetteville, N.Y. He is a pharmacology professor at the State University of New York Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, N.Y.
- Susan M. Nitschke Tarkka ('85 BS, '85 MedT) is a financial advisor with Merrill Lynch in Kansas City.
- B-Chen Wen ('86 R) resides in Miami, and is a professor in the radiation oncology department at the University of Miami Hospitals and Clinics.
- Thomas Bainbridge ('76 BSPH, '87 MD, '90 R, '92 F) practices at Family Medicine of Mt. Pleasant in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He has four children, two in college and two in grade school.
- Mark A. Granner ('87 MD) resides in Coralville, Iowa and is an associate professor of neurology (clinical) at UI Hospitals and Clinics. He has directed the Neurology Residency Program since 2005.
- Douglas S. Hagan ('87 MD) practices at South Denver Anesthesiologists, PC in Englewood, Colo. He and his wife, Cindy, have two children, Stephanie, 13, and Matthew, 10.
- Jan K. Siebersma ('87 MD) practiced in Pella, Iowa from 1999-2001 and then returned to New Mexico. Currently, she is a gynecological surgeon at Women's Medical Associates in Las Cruces, N.M., and has five children.
- Gregg K. VandeKieft ('87 MD) is a faculty member of the Providence St. Peter Family Medicine Residency Program in Olympia, Wash., and also is medical director for Hospice and Palliative Care. He is president of the Washington Academy of Family Physicians and on the board of the Washington State Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.
- Keith A. Vollstedt ('87 MD, '92 R) is president of medical staff at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
- Shawn P. Wilson ('87 MD) resides and works in Milton, Wisc., with his wife of 25 years, Kyla. They have five children.
- Thomas K. Wuest ('81 BS, '87 MD, '92 R) is president and a practicing physician at Orthopedic Healthcare, Northwest in Eugene, Ore. He is president of Trillium Community Health Plan, a local physician-owned Medicare Plus product.
- William Kinsey ('88 MPT) is medical director of North Cambridge Health Center in Cambridge, Mass. He has worked in community and family medicine, most recently at the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center in Lawrence, Mass. He spent more than two years as a physical therapist and clinic director in Malawi, Africa, as a member of the Peace Corps.
- Lyndon Gritters ('89 MD) is a radiologist with Jamestown Radiologists in Jamestown, N.Y. He and his wife, Melanie, live in Lakewood, N.Y.
- I. Michael Koontz ('89 MD, '92 R, '95 F) is a gastroenterologist in Dubuque, Iowa. He has written the book, 'Under the Cloak of Darkness: The Story of John Apparite.'
1990s
- MaryBeth E. Lake ('92 MD) is an associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences and director of education and residency training in child and adolescent psychiatry at Northwestern University/Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. She was married in November 2006 to Joseph Hasson at St. Clement Church in Chicago.
- Joel H. Blumin ('93 MD) resides in Bayside, Wisc. He was recently promoted to associate professor of otolaryngology and communication sciences at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He also is chief of the Division of Laryngology and Professional Voice.
- Richard A. Sidwell, ('88 BS, '93 MD) is director of the Iowa Methodist Medical Center Surgery Residency Program.
- Michael J. George ('97 MD, '02 R, '03 F) lives in Salem, Ore. He and his wife have two sons.
- Michael A. Hovey ('97 MD) left the U.S. Air Force in 2006 and joined a general surgery private practice in Omaha, Neb.
- Erika R. King ('97 MD) is medical director of hospitalist services for Carolina Health Specialists in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
- Sanjai Nagendra ('97 MD, '02 F, '03 F) is director of hematology and coagulation at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Ill. He and his wife, Deepashri, have a daughter.
- Lisa Kasten Price ('97 MD) completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in geriatrics at the University of Colorado. She is in private practice at Geriatric Medical Associates in Denver, Colo. She and her husband, Kip, have two sons, Adam, 7, and Cooper, 4.
- W. Curtis Whisler ('97 MD) is a physician at Catalyst Medical Clinic in Watertown, Minn. He and his wife, Cheri, have a son, Liam, 12, and a daughter, Kate, 6.
- Stacey E. Whitehead ('97 MD) resides in Council Bluffs, Iowa and is a general surgeon for Council Bluffs Surgical Associates. She and her husband, Jason, have a son and a daughter.
- Robert B. Nordstrom ('94 BSE, '98 MD) of Springfield, Ill., is a radiologist at Clinical Radiologists.
- Julie A. Gressley Ronnebaum ('98 MPT) resides in West Des Moines, Iowa. She is a physical therapist and an instructor for the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Des Moines University.
2000s
- Shelli L. Connell ('01 RadT, '03 CER, '03 BS) of Dubuque, Iowa, is lead sonographer at Medical Associates Clinic in Dubuque.
- Charles E. Galaviz ('01 MD, '05 R) started the Liver Transplant Anesthesia Program at the University of Utah. He and his wife, Jessica Comstock ('04 MD), welcomed two children, Levi and Ian, into their family on Sept. 15, 2006.
- Jason Post ('04 MD) was selected to receive the 2007 Joseph D. Messler, MD Fellowship Award for excellence in general internal medicine. He is a chief medical resident for the Mayo Internal Residency Training Program.
- Stacy L. Sattovia ('06 F) is an assistant professor of internal medicine at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. She resides in Springfield, Ill.
