James P. Duffy ('43 BA, '46 MD) serves on the Good Samaritan Hospital Board of Directors, Sumner, Wash., where he practiced for 50 years. He returns to his family home in Bussey, Iowa, each year to hunt and visit with his two surviving brothers, friends and other family.
Ben E. Katz ('43 BA, '46 MD) is a board member of Magic Valley Regional Medical Center (MVRMC) Foundation and the Twin Falls (Idaho) Community Board of Directors for St. Luke's Mountain States Tumor/MVRMC.
M. Alden Van Pelt ('43 BA, '46 MD) of Belvedere, Calif., retired the first time after 40 years as a general and vascular surgeon. One month later he took a position as a surgeon and consultant at San Quentin State Prison, where he stayed until his second retirement in 2005 at age 81.
Eugene E. Lister ('51 MD) of Dallas Center, Iowa, retired in 2005 from the Military Entrance Processing Station in Des Moines. He'd been in family practice from 1952 to 1994.
Verlyn M. Miller ('51 MD, '59 R) of Boulder, Colo., worked until his retirement as a thoracic-vascular surgeon in Racine, Wis. He enjoys alpine hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park.
Marvin D. Richards ('48 BA, '51 MD) has been an attending physician at San Mateo Medical Center since 1992 and was in private practice in Redwood City in internal medicine and hematology from 1955 to 1982. He works part-time at County Primary Care Clinic.
Dan A. Bovenmyer ('56 MD, '62 R) of Bettendorf, Iowa, retired in 2000 but is an adjunct associate clinical professor of dermatology and volunteer teacher in the UI-affiliated family practice residency program. In four generations his family has produced 22 physicians. Sixteen and one-half graduated from the UI (one transferred to Northwestern) and 15 have practiced in Iowa.
Jack Broms ('56 BA, '56 MD, '65 R, '65 MS) works at the Ventura Orthopedic and Sports Medical Group in Ventura, Calif. Twelve years ago he helped found the Free Clinic at the Salvation Army, which now has 18 volunteer doctors. He has volunteered in Kenya (three times), Honduras and Dominican Republic (once each) and Mexico (twice).
Edward H. Ceilley ('56 MD) of Cedar Falls, Iowa, retired in 2001 from private practice. He and Yvonne enjoy visiting their five children and 16 grandchildren who are scattered from Wisconsin and Iowa to Florida and California. His hobby is car maintenance—his own and several race cars.
William E. Funcke ('56 MD) of Beaver Dam, Wis., is retired but tutors elementary school students. He has traveled extensively and builds plastic aircraft models and writes reviews on them for Finescale Modeler magazine.
Arnie L. Jensen ('56 MD, '73 R) reports that family brought him back to the Midwest three years ago, where he's now at Franciscan Skemp Mayo Systems in LaCrosse, Wis. He is still practicing radiology, although his true passion is wellness, preventive medicine and fitness.
Douglas D. Klink ('56 MD), of Mequon, Wis., is retired but teaches endocrinology to family practice residents and works in a clinic for the underinsured.
Ronald K. Lechelt ('56 MD), of Idaho Falls, Idaho, may have retired in 1993, but he worked part-time for the Indian Health Service until last year. He also tutors second graders in reading.
Edward J. McLaughlin II ('52 BA, '56 MD, '63 R) of Fresno, Calif., still works part-time as a radiologist and enjoys travel, target shooting and spending time at his desert home or Lake Tahoe.
Ralph E. Reeds Jr. ('53 BA, '56 MD) has been in private practice in dermatology in Ohio since 1982. He has appeared in more than 20 local theater productions and nine light operas in the past 20 years.
Leland Sprague ('52 BA, '56 MD) practices anesthesiology part-time in Ojai, Calif. He also rides RAGBRAI at least every other year.
William Brauer ('55 BS, '59 MD, '63 R and MS) of Edina, Minn., retired from private practice in 2000. Named 2006 “Locum Tenens of Year” by LocumLife magazine, he now is chief psychiatrist at the new Annandale Minnesota Mental Health Hospital.
Edwin Newman ('58 BA, '61 MD) has been on the radiology staff at Carolinas (N.C.) Medical Center since 1967. He is active in the community and reports that he enjoyed a trip through South America.
Richard A. Dimond ('66 MD) is retired but still involved with the VA Puget Sound Health Care System where he works in orthopaedic clinical and compensation, and pension clinic work for veterans. He teaches and is clinic director at the University of Washington orthopaedic surgery department, and is orthopaedic attending at the Indian Health Care Clinic in Tacoma.
Jay E. Ferstenfeld ('63 BA, '66 MD) is in private practice in infectious diseases in Waukesha, Wis., and also is a part-time faculty member at Medical College of Wisconsin. He assists with the community meal program of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Ross A. Madden ('66 MD) of Dubuque, Iowa, has been retired since 2002, but volunteers with the Mercy Medical Center board of trustees and fund development committee, and the board of directors of Bethany Home.
Robert J. McGregor Jr. ('66 MD) of Phoenix, Ariz., has been past president of the Maricopa County Plastic Surgery Society and past plastic surgery department chief of Good Samaritan and St. Joseph's Hospitals in Phoenix.
Robert H. Osborn ('63 BA, '66 MD, '70 R) of Port Orchard, Wash., retired from practice in obstetrics and gynecology, but volunteers at the University of Washington and Habitat for Humanity.
John E. Schlicher ('66 MD, '72 R) of Phoenix, Ariz., practices dermatology at the Beatrice Keller Clinic in Sun City West. Previously, he practiced for 32 years at the Wichita Clinic. He is a board member of the Wichita Symphony and Botanica, the Wichita Gardens.
Jonathan D. Winner ('63 BA, '66 MD) practices pediatrics at Northside Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine in Atlanta, Ga. He and Susan enjoy HOSTing UI medical students visiting the area for residency interviews.
Charles E. Driscoll ('67 BS, '71 MD) is clinical professor of family medicine at University of Virginia and Medical College of Virginia. He is editor-in-chief of Resident and Staff Physician Journal and was the 2005 recipient of the Gold Award from the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors.
John R. Imig ('71 MD) has practiced gynecology at the Boulder Medical Center since 1977, where he is chairman of the obstetrics/gynecology department and president of the board.
Thomas M. Gadient ('76 MD) of Henderson, Ky., is a board-certified urologist who served four years as chairman of the Department of Surgery at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, Ind.
Greg Ganske ('72 BA, '76 MD) represented Iowa's fourth district in Congress from 1995-2006. He received the UI Distinguished Alumni Award in 2006 and the AMA Nathan Davis Award in 1998.
Susan Rae Jensen ('72 BA, '76 MD, '79 R, '81 F) is senior partner and practice director at the Heart Center of Colorado. She has given vocal solo concerts for Colorado Opera Festival, Opera Theater of the Rockies, Santa Fe Opera, and multiple benefit concerts for Opera Goes to School and SFO Artist Appreciation Program. She received awards of distinction from the Colorado Springs Symphony and Colorado Opera Festival.
Bruce A. Runyon ('72 BS, '76 MD, '80 R, '81 F) was listed in Best Doctors in America twice and elected to Who's Who in Medicine 2005. He has served as a consultant to the Queen of Saudi Arabia, as a section editor to UpToDate clinical reference service, and as an editorial board member, Journal of Hepatology.
Bob J. Bleicher ('78 MD, '81 R, '83 F) is medical director of the HoriSun Hospice in Lincoln, Neb. He and his wife, Stacie ('79 MD, '82 R) also own a tree farm.
Scott Dunn ('75 BM, '81 MD) of Venice, Calif., is a conductor and pianist who serves as associate conductor for the Pittsburgh Opera and assistant conductor of the Glimmerglass Opera in Cooperstown, N.Y. He invites friends to visit his Web site: www.scott-dunn.com
Cinda J. Melloy ('81 MD) is a pediatrician at CentraCare Clinic in St. Cloud, Minn. She is co-medical director of the Pediatric Cancer Unit in St. Cloud in collaboration with children's health care in Minneapolis and St. Paul. She received the 2006 Physician Excellence Award given by the St. Cloud Hospital employees.
Lora H. Melnicoe ('81 MD) is a pediatrician at Denver Health and Hospitals. She and her husband, Melvin ('78 BA), have two children. She makes several overseas medical relief trips per year through Medical Wings International, where she also is on the board.
James R. Naibert ('81 MD) and Jill A. Miller ('77 BS, '81 MD) live in Albany, Ore. He is president of the board of directors of the Corvallis Clinic.
Jeffrey Vincent Nielsen ('81 MD, '86 R) is a surgeon in Cedar Rapids. He is director of surgery at Mercy Medical Center and on the board of the Physicians Clinic of Iowa.
B. Drew Peterson ('77 BS, '81 MD) is the medical executive for adult medicine at the CIGNA Health Plan in Phoenix, Ariz. He and Gail ('78 BS) have three sons: Andrew, Simon, and Eric.
David G. Schweizer ('81 MD) practices at the Charles City (Iowa) Family Health Center. His wife, Dawn ('78 BA, '79 RPT), is finishing her doctorate in PT. They have three children: Cole, Carly, and Mychal.
James J. Sinnott ('81 MD) is chief of the medical staff and on the board of directors at Coquille Valley Hospital, and also serves as president of the Doctors of Oregon Coast South and is a board member of Atrio Medical Advantage Plan.
Timothy M. Wester ('81 MD) and his wife, Ann, returned to Gamboula in the Central African Republic to work at a mission hospital. Their daughter, Lydia, is at the UI and son, Andrew, is in high school in Paullina, Iowa.
L. Paula Laube ('83 BS) was appointed senior clinician at Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa.
Steven C. Allgood ('86 MD), a general surgeon at the Mason City (Iowa) Clinic, was promoted to the rank of colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve Medical Corps in January 2006.
Daniel W. Collison ('86 MD) reports that after 14 years at Dartmouth in dermatology surgery, including several years as chief, he has established a private practice in Hanover, NH.
Timothy C. Greiner ('83 MS, '86 MD, '91 R) is professor of pathology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and medical director of the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory.
Peter M. Lake ('86 MD) is medical director at Rogers Memorial Hospital in Oconomowoc, Wis. He and Ulrike ('82 BA, '86 DDS) have three children: Alexandra, Steffen, and Caroline.
Charles O. Lozier ('86 MD, '89 R) practices in a busy internal medicine/hospitalist practice in Des Moines. He and Breaca ('83 BA) celebrated their 20th anniversary and have three children.
Deborah M. Reisen ('86 MD) is medical director of the Southern Arizona Children's Advocacy Center in Tucson, Ariz., and clinical lecturer at the University of Arizona. She is a board-certified emergency medicine physician and completed a six-month clinical preceptorship in forensic pediatrics.
Anne L.S. Sullivan ('82 BS, '86 MD) is a UI clinical assistant professor of family medicine, and associate residency director. She is board certified in adolescent medicine. She and her husband, Michael ('82 BBA, '85 MBA), have two daughters, the oldest of whom is at the UI.
Heidi R. Zinkand ('86 MD) has worked for 15 years at Brown Square Health Center in Rochester, N.Y., an inner-city community health center that serves an ethnically diverse underserved population. She is on the New York State Academy of Family Physicians Commission on Advocacy. Heidi and her husband, David ('86 MSW), have two children: Joshua and Sara.
Gerard Clancy ('83 BA, '88 MD, '92 R) was named president of the University of Oklahoma, Tulsa. He will continue as dean of the university's college of medicine. Clancy was a faculty member in the UI's Department of Psychiatry and assistant dean for student affairs and curriculum.
Jay Horton ('84 BS, '88 MD), associate professor of internal medicine and molecular genetics at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, has been named the first Dr. Robert C. and Veronica Atkins Chair in Obesity and Diabetes Research. His research examines the behavioral, metabolic and molecular mechanisms that cause obesity and metabolic syndrome.
Sherrie C. Humphrey Godbolt ('91 MD) is in private practice in psychiatry, specializing in adult and geriatric psychiatry, in the Chicago area. She and her husband, Terrance, an attorney, have one daughter, Alyson.
Jill S. Bjorge Nelson ('96 MD, '99 R, '02 F) practices dermatology at Physician's Clinic in Omaha, Neb. She and her husband, Jeff, have a son, Henrik, and a daughter born in August.
Raymond F. Castro ('96 PhD, '96 MD) is the staff neonatologist at Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas. He and his wife, Pamela ('91), have a daughter, Emma Jules.
Bruce A. Feldmann ('96 MD) is a family practice physician at Avera Spencer (Iowa) Family Care. He and his wife, Jennifer ('96), have four children, Elizabeth, John, Julia, and Samuel.
Susan L. Klenk ('96 MD) moved from Longview, Wash., to Eagle Lake, Minn., and practices at Mankato Clinic at Daniels Health Center in St. Peter. She and her husband, Scott Morgan ('94 MSW), have two sons, Garrigan and Simon.
Stacey K. Neu ('96 MD) just moved back to Iowa from Pennsylvania to join the faculty at Iowa Lutheran Family Practice Residency. Her husband, Frank, is an athletic trainer at Drake University and they have two children, Danielle and Ryan.
Alan D. Richardson ('96 MD) recently relocated to Charleston, Ill., from Quincy, Ill., where he works at Fehrenbacher Clinic. Alan and Brooke have two children, Ian and Sydney.
Eduardo Avila ('00 MD) just finished his first year in general surgery private practice, including plastic and bariatric surgery, in Blackfoot, Idaho. He is in the process of obtaining board certification. He and Wendy have four children, Robert, George, William, and Charles.
Christen Beasley Oskouian ('01 MD) is living in Auckland, New Zealand, through June 2007. Previously, she practiced in the pediatrics and student health departments at the University of Virginia Children's Medical Center. Christen and her husband, Rod, have a daughter, Ava.
Timothy J. Cahill ('01 MD) is a staff anesthesiologist specializing in cardiac anesthesia at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich. He completed his residency at the University of Florida where he was chief resident in 2004-2005.
Tanner L. (Stickney) Colegrove ('01 MD) practices obstetrics and gynecology at Westmoreland OB-Gyn Associates in Lake Forest, Ill. She and her husband, Peter ('98 MD), have twin sons, Will and Charlie, who were born during her third year of residency at the University of Arizona.
Gary B. Fetzer ('95 BSE, '01 MD) moved to Minneapolis in July for a fellowship in sports medicine at TRIA Orthopaedic Clinic. He and his wife, Renee ('96 BA), have two sons, Brady and Nolan.
Greg R. Hanson ('97 BA, '01 MD) is completing a fellowship in laparoscopy and oncology at Virginia Mason Medical College in Seattle, Wash., after completing a urology residency at University of Kansas. He and his wife, Amy ('98 BM), have two children, Lily and Peter.
Nick J. Honkamp ('01 MD) is doing a sports medicine fellowship at University of Pittsburgh.
Christopher Kevin Huls ('96 BS, '97 BBA, '01 MD) is completing a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at University of Wisconsin. He married Valerie Johnson, DO, in April.
John D. Paszek ('01 MD) is an anesthesiologist with the U.S. Navy. He and his wife, Sarah, are stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
Melanie C. (Bone) Patton ('01 MD) is a family practitioner at Sunny View Medical Center in Phoenix, Ariz. She and her husband, Benjamin, have a son, Lukas.
Kenda L. Ramirez ('01 MD) was an internist at the American Medical Center in Upper Tumon, Guam, until August when she relocated to Jacksonville, Fla. Her husband, Ramy Ayad, MD, is a Navy doctor.
Karin E. Vander Ploeg Booth ('01 MD) is a fellow in developmental and behavioral pediatrics at the University of Chicago. She and her husband, Jason, have two children, Keara and Connor.
Jamie A. Weydert ('96 BS, '01 MD, '05 R) is a UI clinical assistant professor of pathology doing surgical pathology, autopsy pathology and directing the pathology externship program. His wife, Christine ('04 PhD), is a fellow at the UI. They have two boys, Simon and Spencer.
