By the Numbers: 2016 Match Day

match-day-2016On March 18, nearly 30,000 graduating medical students across the country learned which residency training positions they matched to at the nation’s teaching hospitals. At the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, which graduates 150 medical students this year, it took less than 10 minutes to distribute the letters announcing the residency assignments, followed quickly by “match madness” celebrations.

52% of UI graduates chose primary care specialties
24 to family medicine
24 to internal medicine
21 to pediatrics
9 to OB-GYN
