Branching out

Airway-TreeAn airway tree from the tracheal lobe of a newborn pig shows the extent of cartilage rings and islands. The University of Iowa’s interdisciplinary cystic fibrosis (CF) research group uses a pig model of CF—which more closely mimics the disease in humans than do other animal models—to study how defects in cartilage may contribute to the disease.
