Accolades

E. Dale Abel, MD, PhD, professor and DEO of internal medicine and director of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center, received the Network of Minority Health Research Investigators Medallion. He has mentored numerous individuals, served on oversight committees that plan workshop content, and run programs for the network.

Harold P. Adams, MD, professor of neurology, received the 2017 A.B. Baker Award for Lifetime Achievement in Neurological Education from the American Academy of Neurology. Adams joined the UI Carver College of Medicine faculty in 1976.

Thomas Schmidt, PhD, professor of molecular physiology and biophysics, was named the 2017 Arthur C. Guyton Physiology Educator of the Year by the American Physiological Society (APS). Schmidt became a fellow of the APS in 2016.

Madeline Shea, PhD, professor of biochemistry and director of the FUTURE in Biomedicine Program, will receive the 2018 Emily M. Gray Award from the Biophysical Society for her contributions to biophysics education.
