Accolades

• The Ophthalmologist named Edwin Stone, MD, PhD (’89 R, ’90 F, ’92 F), to the magazine’s 2016 Power List of the 100 most influential people in ophthalmology. Stone is the Seamans-Hauser Chair in Molecular Ophthalmology and director of the Stephen A. Wynn Institute for Vision Research at the University of Iowa. His research focus is on genes linked to macular degeneration, glaucoma, and heritable photoreceptor degeneration.
• Pamela Geyer, PhD, professor of biochemistry and obstetrics and gynecology, was named a 2015 Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the world’s largest general scientific society. She was selected “for distinguished contributions to the field of eukaryotic transcription, particularly founding discoveries of the insulator class of regulatory elements and mechanisms of tissue-specific gene expression.”
• Andrew Pieper, MD, PhD, professor of psychiatry, was selected for membership in the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI), one of the nation’s oldest and most respected medical honor societies. His research focuses on the discovery of new treatment options for neuropsychiatric disease. His election brings the number of UI faculty among the ASCI membership to 34.
