Department mourns passing of Denis Oliver

Denis Oliver, a 1971 PhD with Roger Chalkley in the Department of Biochemistry, passed away on January 19. As a graduate student and post-doctoral fellow, Denis Oliver developed and refined methods for fractionating histones, related histone protein synthesis to its assembly in the nucleus, and developed one of the earliest models of DNA-bound histones that did not invoke the presence of free phosphate groups.
