For the second year in a row, a member of the Biochemistry faculty has been elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Last year, Marc Wold was recognized at the Chicago meeting for his career’s dedication to the function of replication protein A. In early 2010, John Donelson will be feted in San Diego for his work on the biology of Trypanosoma brucei, Trypanosoma cruzi and Leishmania, which are responsible for African sleeping sickness, Chagas disease and leishmaniasis, respectively. More information is available from the UI News Services.
At last week’s 49th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Cell Biology Meeting in San Diego, a number of Iowa Biochemists presented posters. In addition, Pamela Geyer, Belinda Pinto & Lori Wallrath presented “Integrity of the Nuclear Lamina is Required for Germline Stem Cell Homeostasis,” while Adrian Elcock presented “Molecular Modeling of the Bacterial Cytoplasm” in oral sessions. Elcock’s simulations and a graphic from his work were also covered in Nature.
